This is dangerous.
That's a 2.2% buffer.
The profit was real. The buffer shrank because of what Tether owns. Gold fell about 15% to just over $4,000 an ounce, and the bitcoin price used in the report dropped from $68,200 to $58,600.
As of 30 June, Tether held 146.2 tonnes of gold and 98,933 BTC against $183.64 billion of dollar promises.
So the only thing standing between USDT and a shortfall is a directional bet on two assets that just fell together.
Every USDT holder is long gold and bitcoin on 2.2% margin.
Just like with $MSTR, hold the ASSET, not a receipt for someone else's asset.
