According to Bloomberg, the U.S. Department of Justice plans to dismiss the criminal charges against BitClub Network founder Matthew Goettsche and to resolve the case with a dismissal "with prejudice," with the final terms still to be confirmed by both parties. Goettsche was charged in 2019, with prosecutors alleging that from 2014 to 2019 he ran a cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme, illegally raising about $722 million through a fraudulent Bitcoin mining operation and a recruitment-driven model, and is alleged to have conspired to commit wire fraud and sell unregistered securities. The trial was originally scheduled for October this year; the Justice Department said the case has been ongoing for nearly seven years and is now seeking to recover part of the investors' losses.
